RELATED: Elden Ring Review

Fortunately, Elden Ring provides a way for players to respec, albeit it requires a considerable amount of effort. Like Dark Souls, they must work tirelessly to have this opportunity, and even then, there is no guarantee of success. So, if players have a chance to respec, they should mindfully consider what changes they wish to make and the best time to implement these alterations. For those unfamiliar with this genre of games, this can be exceptionally challenging. To mitigate the difficulty here is how to respec in Elden Ring and when it is the best time to do so.

How To Respec

To respec, players will need to obtain an exceedingly rare item known as Larval Tears. This object will allow a player to reset a character’s stats and level, making them a blank slate once more. The difficulty of respeccing comes from meeting particular prerequisites and obtaining Larval Tears.

Before players can use Larval Tears, they must gain access to Raya Lucaria Academy. To do so, they must first defeat the second boss of Elden Ring. Then, players must find a Glintstone Key, which grants admission to Raya Lucaria Academy. Obtaining this key is a challenging but straightforward process. Upon acquiring a Glintstone Key, players must return to Raya Lucaria Academy and enter. Inside, they will discover Rennala, the Full Moon Queen, who will allow players to respec in return for Larval Tears.

Acquiring this elusive item is demanding but less complex than meeting these requirements. To obtain Larval Tears, players must defeat seemingly insurmountable foes or purchase it for a hefty cost of 5000 Runes. Overall, respeccing requires a great deal of time and effort. Thus, players should be wary of doing it incorrectly or too soon.

When To Respec

Considering the great lengths required to have the opportunity to respec, players should do so cautiously and at the right moment. However, when is the best time to respec a character? While it is tempting to respec immediately when available, players should be patient and wait mid to late-game before doing so.

By this time, they will have considerable experience, an understanding of their preferred playstyle, and knowledge of Elden Ring’s available gear or spells. In addition, players will be better able to respec again if their new build is ineffective or undesirable. Being patient is the best method when respeccing as it allows players to learn, plan, and prepare for a new character build.
