The Claymore is one of the better two-handed weapons that players can snag fairly early into their Elden Ring journey. It has a decent speed when held with both hands and features a weapon ability that can dish out some serious damage if used correctly. Here’s a look at how to find the Claymore in Elden Ring and how players can secure it for themselves.
How To Find The Claymore In Elden Ring
There are a lot of great weapons and skills hidden behind boss fights and strong enemies but, thankfully, the Claymore is not one of them. Players can actually grab this powerful weapon without having to slay any particularly powerful bosses. That said, it is a bit of a journey to secure the two-handed weapon and players will need to deal with some pesky foes on their way to it.
To get the Claymore, gamers will have to travel all the way to Castle Mourne, located in the South-Eastern part of the map. The easiest way to get there is by starting at the Third Church of Marika Site of Grace and then traveling south on the roadway near there. That will put players on a path to The Bridge of Sacrifice and then a road that extends far into the South to a massive fortress called Castle Mourne.
If players slip past the giant archer out front of the castle, they can slide into Castle Mourne through its front door. From there, they’ll want to head straight ahead to find another Site of Grace, as well as an elevator that can be ridden up to an open and expansive courtyard. It’s important to be careful in this area as there are three dogs on the left hand side that will attack should the player get too close, as well as a group of chanting Harpies that are pre-occupied on a hill of bodies to the right.
Unfortunately, the area that players need to reach to snag the Claymore is on the opposite side of the “hill,” up a small wall and in a doorway. To get there, players can hug the right wall of the courtyard (from the elevator) and try to run past the harpies. The foes will go down pretty quickly, except for the larger one with the axe, so players that feel confident in their fighting skills can simply clear the courtyard before moving on.
Once players are up onto the wall, they’ll want to head into a small door on the right and immediately hook to the left around some debris. There they will find the Claymore inside of an inconspicuous chest.

What Does The Claymore Do?
The Claymore is a pretty versatile weapon and a great option for those that put a lot of points into Strength. It has wide arcing attacks and can cover a decent range, making it a great weapon for fighting groups of enemies. It also has a heavy “chargeable” poking attack that can be a great way to stop pursuing enemies in their tracks or stagger them to get some quick hits in. It also has a nice jumping overhead attack that can do solid damage, as well as stagger certain foes.
The Claymore requires players to have 16 Strength and 13 Dexterity, making it a pretty versatile weapon regardless of what type of Melee build players are opting for. Another thing that makes the Claymore a fantastic weapon choice is its Lion Claw ability. This non-chargeable skill only uses 20 FP and can dish out some seriously good damage if players time it right. Using the skill will cause the player’s character to first crouch and then leap forward with a somersaulting front-flip that ends in a massive overhead smash. It’s a great way to catch enemies off guard, and can be used to duck under certain attacks before “countering” with a mighty overhead strike.
