Luckily one of the best Spirit Summons in the game is right next to where the Tarnished starts in Limgrave, although getting Banished Knight Oleg is more challenging than it might seem. While descending through the Fringefolk Hero’s Grave might be an incredibly tough challenge for the early game, it yields incredible rewards that will help players fight the Tree Sentinel waiting outside the tutorial area.

Enter Fringefolk Hero’s Grave
The first step in getting Banished Knight Oleg as a Spirit Summon is to access the Fringefolk Hero’s Grave, located in the Stranded Graveyard right next to the corresponding Site of Grace. Gaining access requires the player to use two Stonesword Keys, so if the Tarnished wants to access it quickly, they should pick the Stonesword Key as their starting item, so they only have to gain one more to enter the Hero’s Grave.
Avoid Chariots And Scions
A large portion of this Hero’s Grave dungeon will be spent avoiding the fast-moving Chariot that rolls through the area, and if the Tarnished are entering this site in the early game, the Chariot will kill them in one hit. Timing is key for this section, waiting for just the right moment for the Chariot to go past sections where players can safely wait to run ahead.
Eventually, the Tarnished will run past a narrow ramp; while on this ramp, players can safely fall off the right side of the ramp onto a side path where the Tarnished will be able to get a few different items and incantations.
This is the easiest route to take through the Hero’s Grave because it means that the Tarnished won’t need to dodge the Chariot for a period, but that does not mean they are totally out of danger.
This portion of Fringefolk Hero’s Grave is covered in Imps, and a Grafted Scion is guarding the Erdtree’s Favor incantation, but it can be avoided with a few well-timed dodge rolls if the player isn’t a high enough level to take it on.
Defeat Ulcerated Tree Spirit
Continuing on this path will eventually take the Tarnished to the area’s boss, an Ulcerated Tree Spirit. This is one of the bosses, much like the Tree Sentinel, that FromSoftware uses many times across The Lands Between.
The best advice for defeating the Tree Spirit is not to be intimidated by its sheer size and to be wary of when it thrashes around. It is most vulnerable to a melee build with heavy armor, enough to tank the blows of the massive sweeping attacks that the Tree Spirit dishes out.
After it is defeated, the Tarnished will receive the Spirit Ashes of Banished Knight Oleg, a great Spirit for distracting the enemy and being a damage sponge for hefty enemy attacks.
Elden Ring is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
