Morgott the Omen King
Morgott begins the battle with a familiar fighting style, reusing his attacks and moves from the previous encounter with him as “Margit, the Fell Omen.” Players should watch closely for his Hammer slam attacks and use them as an opportunity to dodge around behind him for a counterattack, as they are well telegraphed and are easier to read than his other attacks.
He will also sometimes create a spear to jab forward quickly, so players should keep an eye on his empty hand to see what weapon he is conjuring and prepare their dodge accordingly.
He will also make use of daggers to pelt the player from a distance, but watching for his throw and dodging to the left or right should make dodging these fairly easily, leaving an opportunity for healing, using items, or casting spells immediately afterward.
The most dangerous attack during this first phase is his hammer combo, which will begin with him conjuring a hammer and dashing towards the player. Morgott will then perform a series of sweeping attacks with hammer and sword, but there is an opening after the combo finishes when he can be attacked during his recovery animation.
At half health, Morgott will fall to one knee and begin charging an explosion attack, so players should move as far away from him as possible to avoid the blast. After this, Morgott will begin attacking more rapidly and introducing several new deadly attacks to his arsenal.
The first of these involves him conjuring several dozen swords in the sky above the arena and raining them down after a short delay. The best way to dodge this attack is to move away from him and watch the sky to ensure the character is not directly under any of the blades.
Morgott’s other attacks during this phase hint at his relation to Mohg, Lord of Blood. Morgott can now perform an attack that coats his blade in red energy before performing a pair of slashes that send out shockwaves a short distance. Players should dodge to the left or right as he swings to dodge both slices, and this is also a good opportunity to roll around him for a melee attack from behind.
His other blood-themed attack is a charged thrust that will impale the player and hurl them away for high damage if it connects. Watch for him beginning the thrust and dodge left or right to avoid it, allowing a brief opportunity to exploit his recovery from the attack with a counterattack.
Melee Strategies
Players specializing in melee weapons will need to take advantage of the brief periods when Morgott isn’t attacking. The most notable of these are his recovery animations after using his hammer attacks or, during phase 2, the recovery animation of his charged sword thrust attack.
Backing off to heal and use items is also very effective during this fight since Morgott can only attack at range by hurling his spear or daggers which are relatively easy to dodge if players keep an eye on him.
Morgott is most vulnerable to slashing damage, so using slashing weapons will allow players to deal extra damage to him during the fight. Conversely, he is resistant to holy damage, so it’s best to avoid using weapons that deal holy damage during this fight.
Sorcery Strategies
Sorcerers have a huge advantage during this fight since Morgott predominantly uses melee attacks, and it is relatively straightforward to dodge his two ranged attacks and pick him off from a distance with spells like Glintstone Pebble, Great Glintstone Shard, Magic Glintblade, and especially Comet Azur if the player has learned it.
Comet Azur, in particular, is devastating during this fight, especially when paired with a Flask of Wonderous Physick mixed with a Cerulean Hidden Tear to reduce the casting cost to 0.
Simply line up the attack (possibly with the aid of Melina and/or Spirit Summons to keep Morgott busy) and concentrate the spell on Morgott to melt through his health bar rapidly. When he enters phase 2, wait for him to cast his sword rain spell or concentrate his attacks on an ally and then cast again to continue burning through him.
Incantation Strategies
When considering Incantations for this fight, players should remember Morgott’s inherent resistance to holy damage and avoid spells that deal holy damage. Excellent spells for taking down Morgott are the dragon incantations Rotten Breath and Ekzykes’s Decay, which can inflict scarlet rot on him while dealing huge amounts of damage.
Glintstone Breath and Smarag’s Glintstone Breath are also very effective at dealing damage to Morgott. Flame Incantations like Catch Flame, Flame Sling, and Flame of the Fell God are also very effective at dealing damage to Morgott from a distance.
Mixed Incantation and melee builds should take advantage of weapon buffs like Electrify Armament, Bloodflame Blade, or Poison Armament alongside general buffs like Golden Vow to enhance the damage dealt by their strikes while following the advice from the melee section of this guide.
