El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is a third-person action adventure game with artistic world-building and unique aesthetics where it brings 2D-like platformer action to a colorful 3D setting. The story follows Enoch’s journey to seek seven fallen angels with the aim of preventing a great flood from destroying mankind. At the Tokyo Games Show 2010, the game received the “Future Game of the Show” award and its script bagged a gold mention on the Internet Buzzword Awards during the same year. Now, a little over a decade later, El Shaddai is one of the latest cult classics coming to the Nintendo Switch.

In a YouTube video hosted by the game’s Director, Sawaki Takeyasu revealed that the Switch version of El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is currently in development. Although an exact release date hasn’t been announced yet, Sawaki stated that more details will follow on April 28, a few weeks from now. Incidentally, April 28, 2022, is also the game’s 11th anniversary since original release of El Shaddai.

Prior to the Switch port, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron got a PC release last year via Steam. At the time, this included a Deluxe pack for $78.97 that shipped with a 90-page PDF artbook and the game’s soundtrack, which itself includes 61 tracks from El Shaddai. So far, the developer hasn’t shared if the Switch version will receive any similar exclusive offering.

Nintendo has been ramping up its library of games for the Switch as of late, particularly with the likes of Demon Slayer and the rumored Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered. Alongside much-anticipated upcoming titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, the company also appears to be working on popular titles from the past. This ranges from the Switch Online NES catalog to 1990s point-and-click puzzle adventure games like Putt-Putt and Freddi Fish. The inclusion of El Shaddai is one of the latest entries on expected Switch ports, but it’s one that’s bound to excite fans of the handheld console.

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is available on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. The Nintendo Switch version is currently in development.
