The sequel to Oscar nominated-filmmaker Rian Johnson’s Knives Out has been a topic of conversation ever since it was announced that Netflix has signed a deal, to the tune of $450 million, to make two more films with Craig’s Blanc. Production on the sequel is expected to begin in June in Greece, with Johnson returning to write and direct the film.

While Knives Out 2 was officially confirmed in February of last year, the sequel has only recently started picking up steam. On Monday, it was announced that Dave Bautista will also be joining the cast, but similar to Norton, no details have been announced regarding the Guardians of the Galaxy actor’s role in the film. Bautista will next be seen in Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, another Netflix project that premieres later this week.

The first film in the franchise, Knives Out, released in November 2019 and received great reviews from both critics and fans. It went on to become a big hit at the box office, grossing over $300 million US globally, and even received several award nominations, including one for the Best Original Screenplay at the Academy Awards. Fans appreciated the film’s witty humor and the fact that it had them guessing till the end who the real culprit was.

In true Agatha Christie style, the modern-day murder mystery revolved around the death of Harlan Thrombey, played by Christopher Plummer, who is found dead at his estate on his 85th birthday. From Chris Evans to Jamie Lee Curtis, the film had a star-studded cast, and fans expect nothing less from the sequel. But, they shouldn’t expect any of the Thrombey family members to return, as the sequel will have an entirely new cast, except for Craig of course. With production expected to begin in a month, fans are eagerly awaiting more news on casting announcements.

Knives Out 2 is expected to begin production in June 2021 under Netflix.
