When I was given the opportunity to speak with Injustice 2 Creative Director Ed Boon during the Toronto launch event on May 10, the topic of Watchmen characters appearing in-game surfaced. Not willing to commit one way or another to such a premise, Boon refused to rule out such a crossover in the game and pointed to DLC as a way that developer NetherRealm Studios will be getting a few last minute and desirable fighters in.

I know you mentioned Watchmen at one point [on Twitter]. Is that something that’s completely outside of the realm of possibility?

So no Rorschach?

Boon has previously probed the community via Twitter to gauge interest in Watchmen characters appearing in Injustice 2, but the Mortal Kombat co-creator never really followed up with fans on whether or not this would be happening.

As he does point out though, the downloadable characters for Injustice 2 provides NetherRealm with the opportunity to add more fan-favorites to the game. In that light, perhaps the likes of Doctor Manhattan, The Comedian, or Rorschach aren’t all that far behind. Then again, maybe they’re best reserved for an Injustice 3.

Injustice 2 arrives for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 16, 2017.
